We know that CLL patients have a damaged immune system to a greater or lesser extent. It is assumed, therefore, that these patients are more likely to suffer ill effects from the virus. New research seems to confirm this. You can find the report here:
However, it should be stressed that the number of patients involved in the research is very small, and the results must be understood with caution, therefore. As the report says: ‘….. importantly, these results do not tell us what someone’s risk of dying is if they have CLL and get the coronavirus.’
The results, even at this early stage in the research, confirm the need to stay vigilant and to remember the essential rules of social distancing, regular handwashing and mask-wearing.
