Fundraising

Membership of CLL Support is free and there is no charge made for publications or for attendance at our patient conferences. We are enormously grateful for the support of our members, without whose efforts we could not carry on our work.

Where our funds come from

We are reliant on obtaining funds from several areas. These include grants from major pharmaceutical companies, legacies, events, and regular donations. However, this page is aimed at our supporters and how you can actively become one of our fundraisers, or contributors, and help in maintaining the funding of the ongoing works of your organisation. Yours, because we are a member-led group with a team of unpaid voluntary trustees holding the whole thing together.

How your fundraising helps

The money raised by our fundraisers helps us to continue to support our members and their families.  Examples of how your fundraising helps below:

Information packs – £5
One hour helpline call – £15
Mailout – £45
Support ACT one-to-one session – £65 per hour
A place at one of our conferences – £80 approximately
Support ACT group drop-in session – £300 per session

2025 Fundraising

We had a fantastic year last year with our 20th Anniversary and Challenge 20 raising around £33.5K including Gift Aid which well exceeded our target of £20K.  We didn’t have a theme for 2025 but we have had some amazing fundraising taking place with a combined target of £22,100.  The team at CLL Support are so grateful to our fundraisers for raising awareness and for fundraising for us.  Your support is so important to us as it helps us to help others with CLL/SLL and their families.

How can I help?

There are many ways in which you can fundraise for us.  It doesn’t have to be physically challenging although this year some of our fundraisers have indeed been getting physical.  Please read on to find out what people have been doing in 2025.  For those of you who might like to support them we’ve included links to their fundraising pages where you will also find information about their individual events and fundraising totals.

Just some of our 2025 Fundraising heroes

Yorvik Vikings – this is a group of Triumph motorcycle enthusiasts.  One of their members is Jezz Booker who was recently diagnosed with CLL and is also one of our Associates.  Jezz and the club have been organising various events throughout the year to fundraise and raise awareness.  These have included a number of ride-outs and motorcycle meets, a weekend Spring rampage, Curry night, Quiz night, bike show, Race the Waves and a BBQ.  You can donate to their JustGiving page here.

The Edinburgh Kiltwalk – Tracy Singh signed up to do the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on 14th September.  Her life has recently been touched by CLL as someone close to her has been diagnosed and is currently on watch and wait.  Her JustGiving page can be found here here.

The Big Half – Grace Sleightholme and her partner Matthew took part in the ‘Big Half’ on September 7th.  Grace has chosen to fundraise and raise awareness for CLL Support in memory of her wonderful Dad who had CLL.  The Big Half follows a 13.1 mile closed road course starting at London’s iconic Tower Bridge and finishing at the Cutty Sark, Greenwich.  Grace’s Enthuse fundraising page is here.

Iron Man Challenge – at the end of July Aidan Harris took on Iron Man Leeds.  He had to complete a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 run.  He wanted to raise awareness of CLL as his Uncle, one of our Associates, has CLL.  Aidan’s fundraising page is here.

BBQ – one of our fundraisers, Andrew Frapwell, recently held a fundraising BBQ to raise awareness and fundraise for us.  This is a great example of fundraising not needing to be a physical challenge.  The aim was to support research into better treatments, improve support services for those living with the disease and to contribute to the hope that one day there will be a cure.  Fundraising page is here.

Bantham Boomerang – one of our members, Mark White, recently took part in the Bantham Boomerang.  This involved swimming upstream from the mouth of the River Avon in Devon with the incoming tide until the tide turns and then swimming back to the start.  His JustGiving page is here.

Look out for our newsletters and fundraising bulletins throughout the year where we will be including more information about each of our fundraisers and please get in touch if you have been inspired to fundraise for us this year.  We would love to hear from you.   It doesn’t have to be on the scale of those mentioned here, you might just want to hold a small coffee morning with some friends or maybe hold a plant sale.  With Christmas around the corner, perhaps those of you who like to craft could make things to sell?  There is a list of ideas at the end of this item.

How do you start fundraising?

Well, first you need an idea. This can be something you organise or you can sign up for an organised event, open your Just Giving page and email your supporters.  There are other platforms such as Enthuse or you could just use one of our moneyboxes to collect funds with.  We have fundraising packs waiting to be sent out to you.

Good luck with your fundraising and have fun. Remember we rely on you!
